Born: Aug. 29, 1919 in Gilmer, Upshur County, Texas
Died: Dec. 8, 2006, Higginsville, Lafayette County, Missouri
Burial: Sunny Slope Cemetery, Richmond, Ray County, Missouri

Melvin Lee Crouch was born on August 29, 1919 in Gilmer, Upshur County, Texas, the son of Arthur B. Crouch and Annie Bell Devore-Crouch. He died on December 8, 2006 at the John Knox Care Facility, in Higginsville, Lafayette County, Missouri, from complications of Alzheimer's and heart disease. He is buried in Sunny Slope Cemetery in Richmond, Ray County, Missouri, the town in which he lived, for the rest of his life after his marriage.

Melvin married Alma Rebecca Johnson on September 12, 1943 in San Diego, California, where he was stationed in the United States Navy during World War II. He remained in the Naval Reserves throughout the Korean War. After the war, Melvin worked for the U.S. Post Office, and Rebecca taught school and, later, served as a guidance counselor at the Richmond High School.

Melvin and Rebecca had one son, Dwight Johnson "John" Crouch, who survives, as well as John's daughter, LeChelle Delea "Leigh" Crouch-Williams and her two sons, Jacob Owen Williams and Gavin James Williams. They also raised another son who they never adopted but with whom they retained a bond
