Yvette Augustine Marie Delahayes Darby

Services for Yvette Augustine Marie Delahayes Darby, 80, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Father Sergio Rizo will officiate.

Born in Rouen, France, on June 29, 1926, to Marie and René Delahayes, she passed away April 22, 2007, in Cleburne. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and teacher.

She graduated high school in France at the age of 14. She graduated from L'ecole Superieure de Rouen at the age of 16. It was a prestigious training school for teachers. She soon began teaching kindergarten, fourth and eighth grades and taught for two years. Soon after, she started working for the French government until coming to the United States in 1945. She became a United States citizen in 1950. She married Ralph Darby on June 15, 1957, in Girard, Ohio. In 1970, she graduated from Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio. She began teaching French at the high school level for Niles McKinley in Niles, Ohio. From there she went on to teach at Crestview High School for 11 years. She then moved to Texas and taught at R.L. Turner in Carrolton, Texas, for three years until she began at Cleburne High School, teaching French and Spanish and also heading the foreign language department. She also was a French teacher at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene. She retired from CISD in 1998. After retirement, she was a substitute teacher for Arlington ISD, and she continued to teach and volunteer her services at the TEAM school for three years. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and a longtime member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, where she taught CCD class to many of children.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Darby; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Libby) McCrea of Cleburne, Mrs. Joel (Patty) Jackson of Burleson, Mrs. Sam (Sue) Fenstermacher of Cleburne and Mrs. Randy (Josette) Fullen of Joshua; three sons, Bill Darby of Spring, Texas, Michael Darby of Cleburne and Ralph Darby of Glen Rose; 17 grandchildren and nine great-granchildren; sister, Annette Delahayes; brothers, Jean, Bernard and François Delahayes in France. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Darby; mother, Marie, and father, René Delahayes; sister, Françoise, and brother, René Delahayes.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and rosary will start at 7 p.m.
