OBITUARY

Norman Warren Dearing
1922 - 2014

Norman Warren Dearing, 92, passed from this life to his eternal heavenly home Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014. Service: 1 p.m. Monday at Church of the Cross in Grapevine. Interment: Grapevine Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lucas Funeral Home, 700 W. Wall St., Grapevine. Norman Warren Dearing was born Jan. 27, 1922, to Robert Sidney and Cressie Mae Dearing. He was born and raised in Coppell on what was then known as the "Grapevine Prairie." He grew up on a farm and spent most of his younger days working in the cotton fields. He was known to most people as "Warren"; to some he was "Norm." Others referred to him simply as "Mr. D," while some of his family just called him "Speedy." Warren enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1943 and began training as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. After injuring his knee playing softball, he could not get medical clearance to fly so he went to navigator school and became a navigator on the B-17 bomber. Stationed in Italy, he made 35 missions in World War II. After returning from the war, he married Charlotte Gentry on Oct. 15, 1945. After marriage, they made their home in Dallas where he held accounting jobs for several companies. They built and moved into a house in Grapevine in December 1954, where he lived until he moved to Flower Mound Assisted Living in June 2013. He went to work in 1963 in the Grapevine school district, where he stayed until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement, he went to work with his son, Roger, at Dearing Automotive, which they had opened together in 1983. He was a constant presence at the shop for 28 years prior to moving to Flower Mound. He was a godly man who loved and served His church during his days on earth. He was an honorary charter member of Memorial Baptist Church (Church at the Cross) in Grapevine, where he faithfully attended until his health prohibited it. He served as a Deacon, taught Sunday school and served on numerous committees. He was a member of the Grapevine Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He served several years on the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau board and loved his hometown. Warren was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Charlotte Gentry Dearing; a son, Dan Clark Dearing; three brothers, Aubrey, R.F. and Clark; and a sister, Clennie Pauline. Survivors: Sons, Craig Dearing and wife, Debbie, of Lewisville and Roger Dearing and wife, Dempsey, of Grapevine; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and countless friends and colleagues.
