Soldier Is Graduated By Long-Distance Call

An award of a high school diploma by telephone was made by Carrollton School Supt. M. S. Roach to Pvt. Bernard D. Drury, 19, who left Carrollton High School last January to join the Army Air Forces before his school work was finished.
Roach, after deciding to put Drury's name on the roster of graduates for the commencement exercises, telephoned the private at Lowry Field, 700 miles away, at Denver Colo., to tell him the news. The boy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Drury

Chuck was born in Hamlin, Texas, on July 9, 1925, to Cooper C. and Bessie Mae Drury. The family moved to Dallas in 1931 where they resided until 1941. At that time, they moved to Carrollton just north of Dallas. Chuck volunteered in the U.S. Army Air Corps in December 1943. He took his basic training at Sheppard Field at Wichita Falls, Texas.
