MEMORIAM Gerald Keith Ebanks, Jr.,
Turfgrass Sciences - Texas A&M
Keith Ebanks, born in Shreveport, Louisiana, entered Texas A&M in September,
1985, after graduating from high school in Carrollton, Texas. He graduated
from Texas A&M in December, 1989, with a B.S. degree in agronomy - turf
management option. Upon graduation he was employed as Assistant Golf Course
Superintendent at The Woodland’s Country Club in The Woodlands, Texas. He
had been there 5½ years when he was tragically struck and killed by an
automobile. Keith was highly respected by his fellow employees and loved by
many of the club members. In tribute to his widespread admiration by so many
people, a benefit golf tournament was held in Keith’s honor to raise funds
for establishing a scholarship endowment. The tournament initially was
organized by Jason McConnell, assistant pro at The Woodland’s Country Club,
supported by the entire Woodland’s organization and attended by club
members, co-workers, friends and other golfers from the vicinity. The
earnings were used to establish the permanently endowed Keith Ebanks
Memorial Scholarship. Keith is survived by his parents, Gerald and Bulinda
Ebanks of Carrollton, Texas; and a sister, Cynthia Wade. His brother,
Michael, was one of the twelve killed in the collapse of the bonfire in
1999.
