OBITUARY

Carol Jean Fleming
AUGUST 9, 1936 – SEPTEMBER 7, 2022

CARROLLTON, TX - Carol Jean Fleming passed away on September 7, 2022 at Presbyterian Hospital in Plano. Carol was born August 9, 1936 in Rockford, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Paul David Goranson and the late Kathryn Mary Nelson. Carol is survived by her loving husband James Richard Fleming.

In 1942, she moved with her parents, Paul and Kate Goranson, from Rockford, Illinois to Dallas, Texas; along with her 1 year old sister, Phyllis. Soon after moving to Dallas, their first permanent home was built in University Park off Preston Road. A few years later, her twin brothers, Ron and Tom, were born into the family. She graduated from Highland Park High School and then graduated from East Texas State College in 1956. While there she met her future husband, Richard Fleming. The two married in Dallas on January 19, 1957. Carol later taught History for 15 years at R. L. Turner High School in Carrollton, Texas. Richard and Carol were active members of Christ United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch, where they met many of their best friends.

It was there in Farmers Branch that Richard and Carol raised their 4 children; Penny, Pam, Jim and Jerry. They also blended their love of travelling across the country with antiquing, which lead to them opening The Old Craft Store in the historic downtown Carrollton Square. Eventually they would extend across the square to the Finishing Touch Antique Mall.

Carol was always an avid reader, who loved quilting. Eventually she had made quilts for all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Carol is also survived by her twin daughters, Penny Hudson (John) and Pam Nelson (King), as well as her sons; Jim Fleming (Sallye) and Jerry Fleming. Carol is also survived by her siblings; Phyllis Bronder, Ron Goranson (Terry) and Tom Goranson.

Finally, Carol is survived by 9 grandchildren; Kristen Newcom, Maggie Presley, Katy Frees, Grace Hudson, Kelly Setness, Sara Cox, Randall Nelson, James Fleming, and Jack Hudson, along with 7 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00am Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Christ United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Children's Medical Center Foundation 2777 N. Stemmons Fwy, Suite 1700, Dallas, Texas 75207
