OBITUARY
Jesse W. Fussell
Jesse W. Fussell, 84, better known as “Grandpa” to all who knew and loved him,
went to be with the Lord, Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, in Paris Nursing Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, in Starrett-Rose
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Interment with
military honors follows in Meadowbrook Gardens under the direction of Starrett-Rose
Funeral Home.
The family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 13, 1922, in Scotts Hill, Tenn., the son of Lester H. and Dora
May Kennedy Fussell. He attended Paris Junior College and played football where
he was known as “Big Jess”. He was a veteran of World War II, served in the
United States Navy. He married Juanita Mazine Wright on July 5, 1942, in Yuma,
Ariz. He attended Sam Houston State Teachers college and received his Masters
Degree in Agriculture. He taught two years at R.L. Turner High School and went
to teach at Texas A&M University for a couple of years. He worked at N.L.
Shaffer in Beaumont where he retired. This man left a great legacy behind, more
than family and friends will ever know.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 7, 2005; his parents; three
brothers, Lowell, Malcom and Stanley Fussell; great-grandson, Casey Fendley-Taylor;
and son-in-law, G.C. Elmore.
Survivors include his daughter, Janice Elmore Farris and her husband, the Rev.
Jim, of Batesville, Ark.; son, Joe T. Fussell of McKinney; granddaughters,
Deanna Nicholson and her fiance, Juan Torres, of Paris and his son, Christian;
granddaughter, Jennifer Taylor and her husband, James, of Batesville; grandson,
Evan Fussell of Paris; granddaughter, Candace Wheeler and husband, John;
grandson, Chris Farris and wife, Sherry; great-granddaughter, Jessica Nicholson
and her father, Lance Nicholson of Paris; great-granddaughters, Tiffany Taylor
of Batesville; great-grandsons, Trayce Wheeler, Mason Wheeler, Braden Farris,
Chance Reeves and Logan Reeves; sister, Dot Chapman and husband, Dan, of
Columbia, Mo.; brothers, Guy Fussell of Collierville, Tenn., Marvin Fussell and
wife, Betty, of Newborn, Ga. and Bob Fussell and wife, Ann, of Columbus, Miss.
