OBITUARY Arch Fyke
Passes to The Great Beyond
Another highly esteemed citizen of the Carrollton community has answered
the call of Death and made the journey to that bourne from whence no traveler
returns, and from whence no messenger has brot tidings to open a vista to make
clearer to us the mystery which surrounds it.
Mr. Archer Cleveland Fyke, died Saturday morning, Oct. 6 at 10.40 o'clock
at St. Paul's hospital to which place he had been taken some days before when
his condition became so serious. There a stroke of appoplexy hastened the
end.
Funeral services were held in the Union Baptist church Sunday afternoon at
3 o'clock, Rev. E. L. Jones, a former pastor, being in charge of the services
and preaching the sermon. He was assisted by Rev. L. M. Joines, Rev. Orbin
Turner, and J. W. Gravley; interment was in
Perry Cemetery.
Arch Fyke was born in the Farmers Branch community Dec. 16, 1866, the son
of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Fyke, early settlers of this community. He passed his
boyhood days here and grew up among our people and has lived his life here open
and clean, much loved, highly respected. He was one of those likeable folks that
we are drawn to instinctively because of the kindliness which beamed in his eyes
and the tenderness which the heart put forth. Mr. Fyke was among the first
persons the writer met on coming to Carrollton and we liked him on sight and
never in all these years have we had anything but the most pleasant relations
and we find that his life was so lived that all others may say the same;
that when Arch Fyke passed away a friends was gone.
Arch Fyke and Sarah Brake were married in 1887. To them three children
were born. Two died, one living, Wilkie Fyke of this place. The wife died in
1896.
Mr. Fyke remarried in 1905, Miss Ollie Maxey becoming his bride. To this
union two children were born; one dying and the other,
A. C. Fyke Jr. surviving.
Mr. Fyke joined the Union Baptist church at the age of 22 years and has
been a devoted member thruout his forty-six years of service. He is survived by
his wife, the son, A. C. Fyke, Jr., and the son Wilkie Fyke; two brothers,
George Fyke of Shawnee, Okla., and D. W. Fyke of Carrollton. Both of these
brothers ate at this time sick and bedfast. There are numerous nieces and
nephews.
Coming from a distance to attend the funeral we noted the following
persons; Barney Maxey, Lubbock; Roy Maxey, daughter and son in law, Plainview;
Henry Maxey Slaton; Mrs. Pilgrim Harbin, Leveyland; John Maxey and family,
Prosper; Mrs. Ben Myers and Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Butrum, Bridgeport; A. F. Myers,
Ft. Worth.
