WADE FYKE'S NARROW ESCAPE FROM DEATH

What could have proved a fatal accident occurred on the Wade Fyke property in north Carrollton last Thursday. Wade had gone down the well to clean it out when a warning was given him by his father to "look out." He was in a stooping position and at that instance stood up to see what was wrong when a heavy slide of earth was heaped upon him imprisoning him under its load up to his neck.
Dell Smith with W. D. Fyke were the only one helping clean the well. They realizing that another slide would entirely cover Wade and that also being in quick sand he was gradually sinking, worked untiringly until they became exhausted. By this time Wade could get his hands out and also help to free himself. But this seemed to slow, help was summoned from down town and soon forty men hastened to the scene of the accident and soon had him free and mounting a ladder out of his prison smiling, glad to be upon the top of the ground where he could breathe freely, but had the earth fallen in on his chest instead of his back, we fear it would have been fatal.
