Howard "Legs" Garrison Visits Carrollton After 25 Years
Carrollton had a surprise when Howard "Legs" Garrison, former blacksmith
and city marshal here came to town after being absent for 25 years. He now owns
a machine shop in Dexter N.M.
In an interview with the Chronicle editor "Legs" said he was very much
surprised at the changes that took place here in the past, quarter century.
He said he has many old friends here, naming a few as: Tom Vandergriff,
Roy Gravley, Ira Brake, Jake Gravley and Bill Vincent.
Garrison said he was the village Smithy in Carrollton for many years when
horse shoeing predominated most of his time. He served as city marshal for seven
years. His father, the Rev. GT. C. Garrison, preached at the First Baptist
Church in Carrollton for many years, he said.
"Legs" was accompanied here by Mrs. Diaz (Dee) Garrison, Dallas, whose
husband is connected with the District Attorney's office in Dallas.
Incidentally, Garrison's political career continued even after leaving
here as he was mayor of Dexter, where he now make his home, for several terms.
Mrs. Garrison passed away about two years ago.
"Come back sooner next time "Legs" - Carrollton welcomes you."
