Janice Duncan Garrison, age 93, of Carrollton, Texas passed away on
October 21, 2020 in Austin, Texas, with her family at her side. She was
born in her family home in Carrollton, Texas to Archie Douglas Duncan
and Marie Cunningham Duncan on December 8, 1926. She graduated from
Carrollton High School in 1944. While in high school, she worked
part-time at the Carrollton City Hall as a clerical assistant to her
father, who was the city's only full-time employee. Typewriters were not
standard office equipment, and she wrote out the water bills and tax
statements by hand. After working in various capacities, including
secretary to several City Managers, she became the Carrollton City
Secretary in 1981, and held that position until she retired, having
served under 9 Mayors. In 1986, she was named the Carrollton Woman of
the Year. She happily served the city that she dearly loved for more
than 35 years. For many years, Janice was an active member of the First
United Methodist Church of Carrollton, teaching Sunday school, and in
various children's programs. Later, she was an active member of
Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Carrollton, playing in the
handbells choir. She was proud of her Methodist heritage, and her
grandfather who was a Methodist circuit-rider. Janice had many hobbies
and interests, including avid reading, sewing on one of several
machines, African violets, crafts, antiquing and collecting, and
especially traveling the back roads of Texas. In 2009, she moved to New
Braunfels to be near her children and grandchildren. Janice is survived
by her 2 children, Drucilla (C. W. Sparks), and Duncan (Paula Garrison),
her 3 grandchildren, Melanie Ambs, Austin Sparks, and Emily Sparks Long,
15 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great granddaughters. She is
preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 48 years,
