OBITUARY

Thomas Richard Gentry, of Irving, passed away July 26, 2010. He was born July 13, 1922 in Coppell. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Wilma Gentry. Mr. Gentry was a medic in World War II and the Korean War. He was employed by the Dallas County Health Department and upon his retirement was awarded a certificate by Dallas County for being employed by Dallas County longer than any other individual. He then worked for the Dallas Sheriff's Department, being in charge of inmate medical issues. After his retirement, Mr. Gentry began building model cars from fine hardwoods. He built these to scale from pictures without the aid of a pattern and with the aid of a pantograph. For this, he was featured by The Irving Cable Network. He had recently displayed part of his collection of over 200 cars at the Irving Heritage Senior Citizen Center. Mr. Gentry leaves behind his son, Richard Gentry of Bedford and daughter Trudy Gentry of Irving; to grandchildren, Jessica Gentry and Tommy Gentry of Bedford; a niece, Lois Hardenbrook of Overland Park, KS; and his nephew Fred Baumgartener and wife Laura of Allen. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 10:00 AM in Brown's Memorial Chapel followed by interment at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, Irving. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the funeral home.
