Last duty assignment and major command was the 30th Command Squadron Strategic Air Command (SAC) at Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE.

A1C Gilmore was born on July 18, 1940 in Houston, TX to Kathryn Jeannette Cray and Judson L. Leggette, later adopted by his stepfather, William Gilmore. After graduating High School in 1958, he received a scholarship to play basketball for Purdue University in Indiana until 1959. In 1961, he joined the United States Air Force and was assigned to Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. After graduating from special training in 1962, he was assigned to the 30th Command Squadron Strategic Air Command at Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE and was discharged with full honors in 1965.

David was a brave and loyal Airman, as well as a patient and loving father. He married the love of his life, Anna Marie Radik in Omaha, NE in 1963 after being set up on a blind date by their mutual friends Cheryl and LeeRoy Schramm. David and Anna relocated to Dallas, TX in 1965 where David worked in mechanical and computer engineering. They then moved to Carrollton, TX and Dave helped to lead the way of establishing the population boom in North Carrollton by being elected as a Planning and Zoning board member from May 1975 to March 1977. He was elected to Carrollton, TX City Council and served from April 1979 to April 1983 under Mayor Ward Steenson and Mayor Leddie Taylor. He also served on the council alongside the now elected Congressman Kenny Marchant. Dave worked in the computer engineering, software sales, and software demonstration field from 1965 until retiring in 2002 after working in management for the software giant Oracle based out of San Francisco Silicon Valley.

David was accomplished at topography, map making, mechanics, mathematics, computer engineering, computer software demonstration, computer software education, and cryptography. He was a generous, witty, and dedicated man who loved reading spy and espionage novels, was passionate about NASCAR, British Football Club (FC) Premier League Leicester, League One Burton Albion, surfing the internet, culinary arts/cooking, and traveling. Also, his love for traveling took him to many countries and cities around the world, his favorites being San Francisco and The United Kingdom. As a self proclaimed “foodie”, he loved all foods from Cajun and Creole to Fine Dining to Anna’s home cooked Polish and Bohemian dishes passed down from her mother.

He is survived by his son; Russell Scott Gilmore (Janiece Gilmore), daughters; Robin Ann Gilmore, Shana Marie Mohr, and Shira Erin Simms (Britt Simms); his three grandchildren; John Edd Miller Jr., Cassandra Marie Simms, and Landon Wesley Mohr.
