Ern L. Gravley, five-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gravley who reside
near Addison was badly burned on his arms and face last Wednesday shortly after
noon. He was playing in a very small building that was used to house chickens
and then later on used for a dog kennel and in this place was a quantity of
straw and corn shucks. He set fire to the dry liter and it blazed up and trapped
him. His calls for help was heard by his mother and she rescued him but he was
badly burned before being dragged out of the trap. To effect the rescue Mrs.
Gravley turned the kennel on its end and this put the boy on his feet and she
then pulled him out. It was not high enough for him to stand up in and it had a
board floor so he was in a precarious place. The fact that he had a knit wool
cap on his head kept the fire from burning his hair or damaging his head as much
as it would otherwise have done.
He was cared for here locally for a few days and then taken to Dallas hospital
where he is now being cared for and is doing nicely, tho he has a severely
burned face and hands, Just how seriously the damage may be is not yet
determined.
