Lowrey Franklin "Frankie" Gravley
1937 - 2022
Lowrey Franklin "Frankie" Gravley entered his Eternal Home on
Tuesday, February 8, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family. He was
84. Frankie was raised in Carrollton by his paternal grandmother and
grandfather, May and Jake Gravley. He is survived by his wife of 60
years, Elizabeth Anne Powers-Gravley; son and wife Lynn and Dianne
Gravley; son and wife Jeff and Audra Gravley; grandsons Franklin Hunter
Gravley and wife Amber, and Garrett Lynn Gravley; granddaughters Alyssa
Brooke Gravley-Kelley and husband Paul, Peyton LaReice Gravley and Caden
Paige Gravley; great-grandsons Franklin Tex Gravley and Walker Paul
Kelley; brother Tom Bowen; sister Charlene Hartline, and several nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Billy John Gravley
and Les Harmon; grandparents Jake and May Gravley; father John Lewis
Gravley; mother Pat Bowen and stepfather C.W. Bowen. Frankie graduated
from Carrollton High School in 1955 and served as president of his
junior and senior classes. During this time, he was a member of the
National Honor Society. He graduated with a BS in Pharmacy at the
University of Texas in Austin in 1959, where he was on the honor roll.
He was a member of the Phi Delta Chi pharmacy fraternity, where he
served as secretary and president. He later did graduate work at the
University of North Texas. He was a Registered Pharmacist until the time
of his death. During his career, he worked as a pharmacist for
Skillern's, Wards and Tom Thumb-Page. While at Tom Thumb-Page, he held
the positions of pharmacist, store director, pharmacy supervisor,
district manager, divisional vice president of the Page Drug Division
and corporate vice president. He received the Robert B. Cullum Award in
1988, and after 25 years, retired from Randalls/Tom Thumb. Frankie
served on the Gunter ISD Board of Trustees (as president and vice
president), Gunter Rural Water Board of Directors, Gunter ISD Foundation
Trust Board of Directors, Cullum Co. Employee Federal Credit Union Board
of Directors, and the FMI Technical Service Board. In 2014, he and his
wife, Elizabeth, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Gunter
Area Chamber of Commerce for their outstanding dedication to the
community of Gunter. A devout Christian, he served as a deacon, Sunday
school teacher and leader of various ministry groups for many years at
First Baptist Church of Gunter. A funeral service to celebrate his life
will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist
Church of Gunter. Interment will follow at Gunter Cemetery in Gunter.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 11, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at
Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Gunter. While flowers are
welcome, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to
either First Baptist Church of Gunter or Valley Church of Christ in
