THE FIGHTING MEN OF TEXAS

Cpl. Oran Earl Gravley, son of C. E. Gravley, of Dallas, and husband of Annell Gravley, of Addison, was born Jan. 29, 1922, and volunteered for the Marines on Nov. 2, 1942, at Dallas. He was placed in the 2nd Division of the Marines and trained at the Marine Corps Base, San Diego, Calif. From Sept., 1943, to Oct, 1945, he served overseas in the Southwest and Central Pacific areas. He participated in the battles of Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. On June 17, 1944, he was wounded, and on Oct. 17 of that same year he was awarded the Purple Heart. He attended the High School of Richardson, Texas, and previous to entering service his occupation was with the Aerated Products Co. On Oct. 26, 1945, he received an honorable discharge from military duties.
