OBITUARY PIONEER WOMAN DIES HERE LAST THURSDAY
MORNING
Mrs. Susan B. Grimes, 97-year-old pioneer of this community, died at her
home in the Grimes community near here last Thursday following a prolonged
illness.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Union Baptist church with
Rev. Arthur Freeman, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Perry cemetery
[Furneaux Cemetery]
Mrs. Grimes moved with her husband to Carrollton from Tennessee fifty-four years
ago and had resided here since that time. He died four years faster. Descendents
of the Grimes total at least 152.
The Grimes community was named in honor of the family. Her oldest son died
recently at the age of 77, E. H. Grimes, 63 years old, is the youngest child.
Survivors include five sons, Elbert Grimes, Azora Grimes, A. D. Grimes, A. D.
Grimes and E. H. Grimes, all of Carrollton and F. L. Grimes of Irving; one
daughter, Mrs. D. C. Perry of Carrollton. Forty three grandchildren,
eighty-seven great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great-grandchildren are among
the survivors.
