OBITUARY

Joy Evelyn (Hudson) Hagan

Hagan, Joy Evelyn (Hudson) Joy Evelyn (Hudson) Hagan passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2010 in Dallas, TX at the age of 85. She was born in Morton, TX on March 29, 1925, to Clem and Ora Hudson. She graduated from Gary High School, then moved to Houston, and finally settled in Dallas. Joy was a proud "Rosie the Riveter" at North American Aviation during WWII and was active in the local Rosie chapter. Attracted by her beautiful red hair, Walter Hagan met and married Joy when they both worked at the old Love Field terminal. They had five children, Edward, Timothy (wife Connie), Kathleen, Colleen, and Stephen, as well as seven grandchildren, Janet, Eric, Eileen, Christen, Michael, Erin, and Kevin (who all lovingly called her Mim), and one great-grandchild, Parker Hudson Wallace. Joy was a go-getter all her life; at the age of 34 she enrolled and graduated from Baylor Medical X-Ray School and retired from St. Paul Hospital after 25 years in the Radiology Department. Joy had an amazing sense of style, and a talent for making things beautiful. Her house and yard always looked like they came out of "Better Homes and Gardens" magazine. She also loved to cook, and the family favorite was her spaghetti tomato meat sauce. Many a Dallas Cowboy football game, birthday, and Christmas holiday were spent by the Hagan family enjoying her home cooking, where she could be heard rallying behind #22 yelling "Go Emmitt. Come on, Baby!" as she re-filled secret candy drawers or made egg salad for a visiting grandchild. She had a wonderful life and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter and her daughter Colleen, her parents, brother Porter Hudson, and sisters Susie Majors and Norma Duncan. She is survived by her sister Loma Gay Holmes and brothers Paige and Huey Hudson. Visitation and Rosary will be held on Sunday May 2, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, funeral mass will be held on Monday May 3 at 1 pm at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 2800 Valwood Parkway, Farmers Branch, TX 75234 and burial immediately afterward at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, TX.
