OBITUARY
Carol
Leigh Hammar
Carol Leigh Hammar died peacefully at home on April 28, 2020 at the age
of 63. She was born on May 30, 1956 in Greenville, Mississippi to Guy
and Hilda Luke. The daughter of an Air Force Colonel, Carol grew up in
various areas across the United States. At the age of seventeen, she and
her twin sister Kathy decided to make Texas their home. Carol and Kathy
were best friends. They supported each other and lived within close
proximity to each other their entire lives. Carol married James “Jim”
Hammar in March of 1987.Carol and Jim Hammar married in March of 1987.
They were married for 23 years until Jim’s passing in 2010. Carol was
blessed with two sons, Aaron and Austin, and one granddaughter Evelyn.
She was an enormous source of love and support for her children and
grandchild. She lived for them and always put them first, for better or
for worse. She was an avid animal lover caring for countless pets during
her lifetime; dogs, cats, hamsters, ferrets, bunnies, crabs, fish,
lizard’s, and one bird. Carol enjoyed spending her time crocheting and
being creative and she put her talents to good use working in the floral
department at Market Street. Carol took pride in her home and loved
decorating for the holidays. Carol was generous, kind, and loving to a
fault. She hated saying no to those she loved and would willingly bend
over backwards for those in need. Carol experienced great loss in her
life but bore it with immense strength and grace.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents Guy and Hilda
Luke, her twin sister Kathy, and her youngest son Austin. We find
comfort knowing that she has been reunited with so many of those whom
she had loved and lost and know that she will continue to love the rest
of us from afar.
She is survived by her eldest son Aaron, daughter-in-law Alysse, nephew
Jason, and granddaughter Evee.
A memorial service will be held for Carol on Saturday, November 7, 2020
at 10:00 in the morning. For those who prefer not to attend in person
due to Coronavirus concerns, the service will be made available view
