OBITUARY

Jerry Fae McCurley Hamner
Jan 3, 1945 - Feb 15, 2022

Jerry Fae McCurley Hamner was born more than a month premature on January 3, 1945 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She started life so tiny and fragile, that the doctors of the time were sure she wouldn’t make it. Her father was allowed to come home from World War 2 to see her before he deployed because everyone was so sure he’d never get to see her again. As he held that little bitty girl, so small, in the palm of one hand, he slid his wedding ring up her leg to grasp how small she was and cried because he was sure she had no chance of survival and then he was sent back to the war.

He had no idea at the time what a fighter she was. Her tenacity and determination, once she set her mind to something, was unparalleled. She not only survived but thrived and went on to do wonderful things in her life.

Jerry, unknowingly, would meet the love of her life in 5th grade when he approached her at the water fountain in school and asked her to go steady with his cousin, Bill. She declined, but always, thereafter, had a fondness for the skinny dark-haired boy named David Hamner.

They grew up together, went to school together, cheered in high school together, and went off to college together and eventually married on Jan.11, 1965. Together, they finished their education, got their degrees, worked full time jobs while they also ran a small farm and went on wonderful vacations with their three children, Adam, Matthew, and Hannah.

Jerry was an amazing Registered Nurse (RN) for close to 40 years. She tended the sick, saw new life enter and held the hands of some who were leaving this world. As a faithful follower of the Lord, Jesus Christ, she did it all with the utmost dignity, love, respect and care for the patient. When she wasn’t caring for others, she spent her leisure hours being a wonderfully talented artist and loved to share her art pieces with others.

Jerry is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, David B. Hamner, their son, Adam B. & Denise Hamner, their son, Matthew W. & Carol Hamner and their daughter, Hannah Hamner Horsley & Scott Horsley. There are eight grandchildren that she was blessed with, Alyx Rodgers, Garion Hamner & wife Alysha, Garrett Hamner & wife Angie, Jessie Hamner Patterson & husband Cody, Connor Horsley & wife Grace, Logan Horsley, Faith Horsley and Lydia Horsley and they gave her five beautiful great-grandchildren – Keira Hamner, Julian Hamner, Grace Hamner, Jane Hamner and Colt Patterson. She is also survived by her brother Mark McCurley & Pam and their daughters Erin McCurley Sanchez and Meagan McCurley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Juanita McCurley and the 2nd love of her life Elvis Aaron Presley

A small private celebration of her life was held by her immediate family during her last day with us. Per her request, no other memorials are planned.

Any donations in her name can be made to support Heart to Heart Hospice in Sherman Tx. or your local Library.
