OBITUARY
Rail Workman Is Killed Wed. Night
Rev. Jack Harris Is Run Over by Train
Rev. Jack Harris, 33, an employee of the Cotton Belt Railroad, was killed
instantly about one o'clock this (Thursday) morning when he was run over by an
East Bound train about three miles west of Carrollton.
Harris was an employee of the rail road and was watching a bridge which was
endangered by the flood waters for the company last night. No details were
available, and company officials could not be reached Thursday morning for a
statement but it was reported that he must have fallen asleep because he was
lying across the tracks. The heavy freight engine ran over the body severing the
head from the body and tearing off one arm. The engineer is reported to have
seen the body, but was unable to stop the heavy freight train as such a short
distance.
Harris, formerly of Carrollton, moved to Grapevine last November when he went to
work for the Cotton Belt under his father, J. M. Harris, section foreman at
Grapevine. Young Harris was a minister in the Union Baptist church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Harris, formerly Mary Anderson, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Anderson; two daughters, Billie Jack, 10 and Betty Jane,
4; mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Harris of Grapevine, two brothers,
Hazel Harris of Dallas and Floyd Harris of California; five sisters.
