OBITUARY
 
Harrison, Frank

Frank Harrison, of Chattanooga died after a battle with cancer on Thursday, Feb 27, 2014.

He was born in Dallas, Tx., in 1929 and attended SMU majoring in Civil Engineering. He served the United States during the Korean War in the Army Corps of Engineers. After discharge, he worked in construction, building interstates and airports all over Texas in the 50s and 60s, prior to joining Dixie Sand and Gravel in Chattanooga as president in 1963. He was instrumental in the sale of the company to Vulcan Materials Company in 1982, ultimately retiring in 1991. He was an excellent golfer in the 1960s and 1970s once shooting a 68 at Valleybrook.

He is survived by his son, Don and daughter-in-law, Cathy of Dunwoody, Ga., a sister, Betty Lones of Jacksboro, Tx., a brother, Robert Harrison of Carrollton, Tx., as well as two grandchildren, Bradley Harrison, a medical school student in Savannah, Ga., and Kelly Harrison, a senior at Auburn University.

The family will have a visitation at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace on Saturday, March 8, from 2-4 p.m.

There will be a graveside service at Chattanooga National on Monday, March 10, at 1:30 p.m. with full military honors. At that time, Frank’s wife, Beverly Harrison, who died April 18, 2013, will be laid to rest next to her husband.
