OBITUARY

Dorothy Lee Hawes Hester died October 23, 2014 in Dallas at age 85. She was born on July 7, 1929 in Bullard, Cherokee/Smith County, Texas to Haskell Tenery and Sudie Areta (White) Hawes. She married Golden (Goldie) Eugene Hester on October 3, 1952 in Portales New Mexico. Dorothy was preceded in death in 1957 by an infant daughter, Evalee Hester and in 1989 by her husband, Goldie, her parents and two brothers. She is survived by daughter Tresha Hester of Farmers Branch, Texas, daughter and son-in-law Leisha and Brent Mullins of College Station, Texas; and grandchildren Emily Mullins and Matthew Mullins, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The Hester family moved to Farmers Branch, Dallas County, Texas in 1969. Throughout her life, Dorothy was active in church, working with young children, youth and senior adults. Goldie and Dorothy were "Tom-Landry-Dallas-Cowboys" football fans and for many years never missed a home game. Dorothy retired from Dallas Independent School District after 20+ years as an elementary school teacher. Dorothy was devoted to her family and friends, especially her grandchildren who were the light of her life.

She loved sewing, crafts, gardening and cooking. Dorothy loved working with her plants whether they were in an atrium Goldie constructed by closing in the front porch on their house and opening it to the house by removing the picture window, or whether the foliage was planted in their beautifully maintained yard. Dorothy sewed for her daughters all of their lives, staying up nights on-end to complete Christmas gifts and/or Easter outfits. When both girls planned weddings for the same summer, Dorothy made all of the brides' maids' dresses. While Dorothy was probably most well known for her peanut brittle, her delicious cream pies and chocolate fudge were also highly coveted.

Family Visitation was held at Dallas North Funeral Home on Sunday, October 26, 2014, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. The funeral was held Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Farmers Branch with interment at Hilltop Cemetery in Carrollton, Dallas County, Texas. Pastor Sam Underwood officiated at the ceremony.
