OBITUARY C. W. Hill Laid To Rest Sunday C. W. Hill, one
of our most highly respected and most dearly loved citizens, passed away
Saturday morning at 1:00 a.m. and funeral services were held at the Methodist
church, the church he loved so well, conducted by Rev. C. S. Fielder of Van
Alstyne, and Rev. T. W. Lovell of Richardson. Burial was made by the the side of
his wife in the Carrollton Cemetery with the James A. Smith, Masonic Lodge of
Farmers Branch holding the services. "Uncle Charlie," as he was known
by all, was born July 4, 1845, in Surrey County, N.C., and moved to Cumberland
County, Ky., and later to Overton County, Tenn. He moved to this community in
1901. He was married to Miss Nancy Golden Parker of Cumberland County,
Ky., in 1868, and to this union eight children were born, all of them passing on
but two sons, Allen, of Rose Lawn, and Bob, of Carrollton. He was a member of
the James A. Smith Masonic Lodge of Farmers Branch. He served during
the civil war in the North Carolina Junior Reserves and had two years service
under Captain Conrad. He joined the Methodist church at the age of 21 and there
is none within a radius of 20 miles that does not know how faithful he was to
attend church and Sunday School and was always ready to do his part and part of
the other fellow's who did not come up with his part.. When the present
Methodist Church was built, his picture was put in one of the windows, showing
how highly the members and stewards honored him. During the past three months he
was too feeble to leave his room and a short time before he died requested these
ministers to conduct his funeral services. There will be a vacancy in
the church and the town that will be difficult to fill and his memory will be
reverently remembered by all who knew him. The Carrollton Chronicle -
