OBITUARY Eugene J. Hogan
1928 - 2021
Eugene J. Hogan, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle
and friend to many, passed away in Frisco, Texas on August 18, 2021. Most often
called "Gene," he was born on November 15, 1928 in Iraan, TX to Thomas Cecil
Hogan and Jewel Pearl Tyra Hogan. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers
Tom Hogan Jr, Ted Hogan, Sr., and Russell Edmond Hogan. After spending most of
his childhood in Crane, TX, Gene graduated from Texas A&M University, Class of
'50, with a degree in Accounting. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in
the US Air Force and was stationed at Carswell Air force Base in Fort Worth. In
February 1952, he was assigned to audit base supplies across Korea, Japan, Guam,
and other eastern bases. He returned stateside in June 1953 where he remained in
the Air Force reserves until discharged as a Captain in 1967. Gene began his
public accounting career in Midland, TX in June 1954. By 1961, he moved into
corporate accounting for numerous oil and gas companies. Texas Land and Mortgage
Co., Spectrum Seven Energy, and Jack Hightower Interests were his most
fulfilling positions. He retired in 1998. Eugene and Mary Lou Hanks Quattrini
were married by L.L. Morris on December 10, 1960, at the First Baptist Church of
Midland. On that snowy, freezing morning, he added not only a wife, but 2 more
children to the big, extended Hogan clan! He is survived by wife, Mary Lou Hogan
of Frisco TX, son Mike Quattrini (Susan) of Grapeland, TX, and daughters Denni
Kay Quattrini Scates (John) of Frisco, TX and Diane Hogan (Sharlette) of Austin
TX, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Gene will always be
remembered as a good provider who supported his family in every way he knew to
do. From frequent interaction with the extended family, to Colorado vacations in
July every year, we were left with many stories to tell through the generations.
He was quickly identified by everyone who met him as a Texas Aggie and a man who
truly loved his country! His years of education and service preparation at TAMU
and his years in the Air Force and Reserves were the part of his life that
molded him and formed his unwavering work ethic, which he has passed down
through his children. Gene was a member of First Baptist Church of Midland for
57 years, moving to FBC of Carrollton only after moving to the Metroplex to be
closer to family in 2017. After his retirement in 1998, Gene volunteered at the
Commemorative Air Force Museum, was active in the Midland Downtown Lions Club,
and was a member of both the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum and Permian Basin
Petroleum Accountants organizations. Memorial donations may be made to any of
these organizations. A family gathering to share love and stories will be
arranged later this fall and internment will be in the Perry Cemetery of
Carrollton. The family may be reached by email at
