OBITUARY 1988 Hamlin Woman
of Year Mildred Howard dies at 69
HAMLIN - Mildred Howard, 69, died
Tuesday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 5 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry
Sanders, Leonard Hartley and Herb Retta officiating. Burial will be in Hamlin
East Cemetery, directed by Foster-Adams Funeral Home.
Mrs. Howard will born in Livingston and moved to Hamlin in 1945. She graduated
Carrollton High School in 1938 and attended a business school in Dallas.
She was secretary of Hamlin Elementary School for 19 years, retiring in 1987.
She was also record keeper for the Hamlin Cemetery Association. She and her
husband, Justice of the Peace John Howard Jr. who survives her, were selected
man and Woman of the Year of Hamlin n 1988.
She was a member of Texas State Teachers Association and First Baptist Church
where she attended Rachel Sunday School classes.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Helen Weaver of
Stamford; a son, Johnny Howard of Hamlin; a brother, Marshall Traylor of Lufkin;
and two grandchildren,
