OBITUARY Boy Killed When Bus Hits School Vernon Gene
Hudson, a 6-year old first grand pupil at Farmers Branch School, was killed
Friday when a homeward-bound school bus grazed a corner of the school building.
Deputy Sheriffs W. W. Mabra and Jack Farley said the accident occurred a moment
after the bus started up on its afternoon run. The reported that the driver,
Glen Templin, 53, of Farmers Branch,
grazed the school building taking a right turn.
The deputies quoted other children in the bus as saying that the boy had stuck
his head out the right-hand window just before the bus hit the building. The bus
itself was undamaged and no other children were hurt. Passengers included the
victim's 7 year-old sister, Caroline Joyce Hudson.
The Hudson boy was pronounced dead on arrival at Parkland Hospital. He lived
with his parents on Joe Field Road, south of Farmers Branch. Funeral services
are pending.
Sheriff Bill Decker said the matter would be referred to the grand jury for
instigation of possible negligence. He said the death would not be counted on
the official traffic toll because it occurred on school property instead of on a
public highway. The Dallas Morning News - October 6, 1951
