MATTIE JACKSON IS A
CREDIT TO FARMERS BRANCH
The Suburban News - Sept 12, 1963Mattie Jackson, an 86 year old Negro,
is a credit to Farmers Branch. She lives at 2226 Deenan Bridge Road in a
very tidy frame house on a well kept and lovely lot.
Born May 10, 1877, "between here (F.B.) and Carrollton," Mrs. Jackson has had
some trying times in her life, but as she reported: "We made it through those
times ... we tried to live right."
She recalled when a Mrs. Ceely Taylor was bitten by the Taylor dog. The
dog had gone "mad" and as a result, Mrs. Taylor suffered from the disease and
died from it.
Mattie Jackson, who has lived in Carrollton years ago, has lived in
Farmers Branch since 1900.
Two of her daughters, Mrs. Marlee Mapps and Mrs. Eunice Epps, work for the
J. C. Penny Co. in Dallas. Another daughter, Ester Ruth Williams, also married,
has been a nurse in Dallas since 1925, while another married daughter, Lilly
Belle Lawson, lives in California. Her sons Charlie lives in California also,
and her other sons, orelind, of California, died in 1962 and was buried in
Farmers Branch.
Dib Dennis, who has known Mrs. Jackson's family for years, has exclaimed:
"Wahat a nice job she did raising her family ... I can vouch for all of them ..
they have been real neighbors to everyone."
It is only fitting that Farmers Branch, in celebrating PIONEER DAYS,
salute one of the area's oldest and finest citizens, Mrs. Mattie Jackson.
