OBITUARY

Michael Jensen
December 18, 1947 - March 8, 2022

Michael Arnold Jensen, 74 from Sherman, Texas, passed away March 8, 2022 in Plano, Texas.

Mike was born December 18, 1947 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Melvin and Florence Jensen. Mike graduated from R.L. Turner High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam from 1967-1974, receiving a Bronze Star. Mike was a proud member of the Glory Riders where he performed at many rodeos and shared the gospel with his fellow riders. His faith was an important part of his daily living and exuberantly expressed it with those in all walks of life. Those on social media were blessed by his daily devotions posted every morning before most of us were even out of bed. He was seen by everyone as friendly and approachable with the ability to have hard, honest conversations delivered with love and compassion. He took on the role of father and grandfather during his 36 years with Sammie Kay Jensen and performed his role admirably and lovingly. He was always trustworthy and reliable, taking care of others before taking care of himself and did so selflessly without a hint of resentment or complaint. Mike was an excellent cook who loved his craft and enjoyed getting to cook for family gatherings. Mike and Sammie shared a love of animals, gardening and time with family including making Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas big occasions where family, friends and any unknown guests were always welcome.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Florence Jensen and his wife, Sammie.

He is survived by his sisters Christina Jennings and Leann White (David), his brothers Bill Jensen (Carlet) and Larry Jensen (Cindy), his children, Coby Lowry, Ronnie Murley, Verna Murley, Shannon Galligan, Chelsea Smith and Courtney Smith; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. May we continue to honor and love him by spreading God’s love.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00pm on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at the Friendship United Methodist Church in Sherman, Texas. The interment and a small reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local homeless shelter.
