BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Philip Trent Jewett (born 3 March 1964 Dallas, Texas) is an American baseball coach and former minor league baseball player. He is currently third-base coach for the Washington Nationals, replacing Bo Porter, who became Manager of the Houston Astros. He was the Nationals first-base coach since mid-2010. He was the manager of the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians, the top farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball from 2005 to 2008.

He managed the Triple-A Nashville Sounds from 1998 to 2000 and 2003 to 2004. From 2000 to 2002 he was Pittsburgh's third base coach. After spending 2009 as the manager of the Washington Nationals' High A affiliate in Potomac, he was named 2010 manager of the Syracuse Chiefs, Washington's Triple A affiliate.

Jewett spent four seasons in the Pirates farm system as a catcher. For his career he had a .172 batting average with two HR and 26 RBI in 113 career games.

Jewett graduated from R.L. Turner High School, Carrollton, Texas, in 1982, and went on to the University of North Texas where he majored in business and played on the baseball team as catcher. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1988.

Jewett, 49, enters 3rd season on Nationals big league coaching staff and 6th season as an MLB coach...moves across the diamond to the 3rd-base coaching box after serving the last season-and-a-half as Davey Johnson's first base coach...began the 2011 season as a Major League coach, before being named first base coach on July 1...overall, returns for 5th season in the Nationals' organization...managed Syracuse of the Triple-A International League to a 76-67 and a 2nd-place finish in 2010, after skippering Single-A Potomac to a 79-58 mark in 2009...in 17 seasons as a manager in the minor leagues, has amassed 1,178 career victories...was honored by industry-insider Baseball America as the International League's "Best Manager Prospect" in 2007...prior to joining Washington, spent entire career as a player, coach or minor-league manager with the Pirates organization...served as PIT's third base coach on big league staff from 2000-02...halfway through the 2000 campaign, while managing at Triple-A Nashville, was summoned to the big leagues to serve as the Pirates' third base coach.

PLAYING CAREER
Played 4 seasons as a catcher in Pittsburgh's minor league chain, after signing with the club as a free agent in 1987...played 243 games during career with GCL Pirates ('87), Princeton ('88), Augusta ('88), Salem ('89) and Harrisburg ('90).

MANAGING/COACHING CAREER: Entering his eighth season as a Major League coach, his second in the Mariners organization and his second as a big league bench coach...Spent 2011-2013 seasons on the Washington Nationals big league staff as third base coach (2013), first base coach (July 1, 2011-2012) and Major League coach (start of 2011 through July 1)...Was on the Pittsburgh MLB coaching staff as third base coach from June 6, 2000 to end of 2002 season...Spent 17 seasons managing in the minor leagues, compiling an overall mark of 1,178-1,165 (.503), including managing 12 seasons as a AAA skipper...Was in Pittsburgh system from 1992-2008 prior to joining Washington organization.
