OBITUARY
Mrs. J. A. Johnston Dies in Oklahoma

CARROLLTON, Texas, July 10. -
Mrs. J. A. Johnston, 83, Carrollton, died Friday at Shawnee, Okla., where she
was visiting relatives. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the
First Christian Church, Carrollton, with the Rev. S. E. Wilkins officiating.
Surviving are four sons, C. A. and J. E. Johnston of Carrollton, W. H. of
Lubbock and Roy L. of Lone Oak; two daughters, Mrs. J. H. Broadhurst of Carrizo
Springs and Mrs. W. A. Merrill of Shawnee; one brother, J. H. Longmire, Mangum,
Okla., and twelve grandchildren. |
Mrs. J. A. Johnston Dies in Shawnee, Oklahoma
Mrs. J A Johnston died in Shawnee, Okla., very early Friday morning,
July 10, at
the home of her daughter and husband, Rev. and Mrs. William Merrill. The
body was
brot to Carrollton Friday and Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the
Christian
church, of which body she was a valued member, funeral services were
held and she was
laid to rest in Farmers Branch cemetery beside her husband who had
preceeded her
seventeen years ago. Rev. S A Wilkins, former pastor, conducted the
services, giving
a beautifully sympathetic presentation of the life and the death of the
member who at
the age of 83 years, four months and three days went to meet Him in whom
she had
placed her trust many years ago. Mrs. Joe Y Field sany "Face to Face"
and "A City
Four Square" in her exquisite manner, Mrs. T G Kelley accompaning at the
piano.Mrs. Johnston was born in Jonesboro, Tenn. March 7, 1853; her maiden
name being
Hannah Longmire. The familo came to Texas in 1870, and here she met and
wed John A
Johnston and they lived their lives in Farmers Branch, and on their farm
a few miles
northeast of Farmers Branch and raised a family which is an honor to
their lives and
their memory. The surviving family consists of four sons, C A Mrs. J E
Johnston of
Carrollton, Roy Johnston of Lone Oak, W H Johnston of Lubbock; two
daughters, Mrs.
Will Merrill of Shawnee, Okla., and and J H Broadhurst of Carrizo
Springs, Texas; one
brother, Jim Longmire of Mangum, Okla.
Pall bearers were Earl and Ray Longmire, nephews of the deceased, and
Earl, J E,
and Wayne Johnston, and John Merrill, grandsons of the departed lady.

Undertakers in charge of the funeral here. The floral offerings were
profuse and most
beautiful.

Rev. and Mrs. Will Merrill and their son John and his wife, and Mrs. J H
Broadhurst came from Shawnee; Jim Longmire and his two sons, Carl and
Clarence came
from Mangum, Okla.; W H Johnston and his son Wayne were here; Roy
Johnston and wife
and daughter came from Lone Oak; and a great number of rlatives and
friends came from
Dallas to attend the funeral services.
