OBITUARY
A Pioneer Passes to Great Beyond
Mrs. Anne Kennedy of Carrollton passed from this world to that great
Unknown on Sunday Jan. 11, at 3:10 p.m. after a lingering sickness of many
months. She was aged 74 years, 4 months, and 17 days. She had been in poor
health for two years but in recent months her condition had become such that the
end was not unexpected when it came.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2
o'clock, Rev. W. N. Vernon, her pastor, preaching the sermon. Interment was made
in Frankford cemetery beside
the husband who had preceded her in death over fifteen years. A large concourse
of friends accompanied the cortege to the cemetery where the last sad rites were
observed. Pallbearers were: Dell Smith, C. L. Chastain, J. Wylie Skelton, J. B.
Gravley, Bob Patterson, Frank Burgess.
An especially large gathering of friends were present at the church to pay
their respects to the friend they had known thruout life and to listen to the
minister in his especially fine message to the living. The choir sang several
selections of which Aunt Anne, the name by which she was lovingly known here was
fond and Miss Jewel Byrd sang a solo while the audience passed the bier.
Thruout her life Aunt Anne had been a worker in the vineyard for her
Master and in her passing she went with hope inspired by the life she tried to
emulate. After moving to Carrollton years ago she was active in her church and
town work with the result that the Men's Bible class of the M. E. Sunday School
which she sponsored, was known by her name and each Christmas so long as her
strength permitted she had prepared for them a special treat which was served on
the Sunday nearest to Christmas day. When a fire company was organized here and
need for certain equipment was noted, she and Mrs. Bob Patterson went forth and
gathered together the needed funds to secure it and the fire company in
recognition of the service adopted the joint name of the two ladies.
Anne Perry was born August 25th, 1856, the daughter of Weston W. Perry and Sarah
(Noble) Perry, her birthplace being within a few miles of Carrollton. Her people
were members of the old Peters Colony who settled this community, and she was of
the pioneer stock.
On February 16, 1876, she was married to William H. Kennedy and to them
were born five children, four of whom are yet living, one dying in infancy. The
husband died August 14, 1915, and her brothers and sisters have all died so
there remains the two sons and two daughters as follows: Henry L. Kennedy, and
Walter E. Kennedy of Carrollton, Mrs. Prudence Bentley of Gallatin, Tenn., and
Mrs. Emma D. Noell of Dallas.
She has lived a good life and left a memory that will ever be cherished by
those who knew her best. Her work will live long after her. May she rest in
peace and attain that reward which comes to those who have fought a good fight,
who have kept the faith.
