C. L. Lane Passed Away Friday Evening
C. L. (Cy) Lane, ou Constable, passed away at the St. Paul Sanitarium
Friday evening at 4:30, after a week's illness. The remains were brought to
Carrollton Saturday morning and funeral services were held at the Methodist
Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. T. W> Lovell and
assisted by Rev. Walter Gilliam of {???}. Burial was made in the
Union Cemetery.
Cy Lane was born Sept. 21, 1863 in Tennessee, but came to Texas in 1879. He was
married to Miss Alice Taylor July 27, 1882. To this union 9 children were born.
One son, Dewey Lane, died in France and his
remains were returned to Carrollton and buried with military honors.
Mr. Lane has been constable for this precinct for the past ten or twelve years
and counted his friends by the hundreds and they were found in every walk of
life. He was held in the highest esteem by all who he came in contact, as was so
plainly shown by the many who attended the funeral, not only from Carrollton,
but from Dallas, Richardson, Farmers Branch and, in fact, from the entire
community that he served as their peace officer. The floral offerings were many
and beautiful, and they spoke in their sweet, silent way, of the sympathy that
was extended to the loved ones left behind.
The pall bearers were the six sons-in-law of the deceased: Bob Hazlewood, Harry
Milton, Doc Bailey, Clarence Slater, Lloyd Hughes and Elbert McGee.
Mr. Lane leaves his wife, six daughters, Mrs. Tom Milton of Madill, Okla., Mrs.
Grace Slater of Fort Worth, Mrs. Hattie Hughes of Dallas, Mrs. Alice Hazlewood
and Mrs. Naomi Bailey of Carrollton, two sins Henry of Dallas and Taylor of
Carrollton, to morn his death.
