OBITUARY

Lynn V.Z. Lawther
August 21, 2013

Lynn V.Z. Lawther, beloved husband, father, and friend passed away at his home in Fredericksburg.

He is survived by his wife Fonza, and daughters, Ann O'Dwyer and Cindy Custer and her husband, Gil Kerley. His grandchildren whom he had call him "Oh Great One" are Benjamin Custer and his wife Nana, Zachary Custer, Hannah Ashe and her fiancé, Austin Shelton. He is also survived by his step children, the McCabes, Molly, Tim, Shaun, Patrick, Murray and their families. Lynn's brother in law, Steve Bell, wife Charlotte and their daughter Kristen and husband, Ash are also among his loving family as is his favorite mother-in-law, Betty Helms Adams.

Lynn will be most remembered by his wonderful wit, his appreciation of beauty even in its starkest expression, his glorious laugh, and his ability to make all who met him feel at ease. His social graces and manners were ever present regardless of the circumstances. Lynn's sense of justice and equality for all mankind dominated his view of the world.

Not only was he an all state running back, he was an artist in all mediums: writer, poet, craftsman, painter; an adventurer in all forms: runner, sailor, hiker, pilot, motorcyclist and bronco rider. He loved the wind in his hair. Lynn always told his daughters to "get back in the saddle" and then at times, "not yet". He was generous, protective and fiercely loyal to all he loved. To quote a dear friend, Lynn was "a prince of a man".

He was cremated and the family held a festive celebration of his life.

Arrangements and direction by the Schaetter Funeral Home of Fredericksburg
