OBITUARY

William B Lehman
May 6, 1931 - January 26, 2025

Retired Lt. Colonel William "Bill" Lehman passed away peacefully on Jan. 26, 2025. Bill was born in Coppell, TX, the youngest of six children and his parent's only son. He grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and love for his country, which led him to a distinguished career in the United States Air Force.

Bill married his beloved wife, Aldine, in 1958, and they shared 62 wonderful years together. Their union was blessed with five children and their love story was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Bill served in the USAF for 30 years as a helicopter pilot. His courage and dedication earned him numerous military honors, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Air Medal, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross for his heroic actions flying rescue and recovery missions in Vietnam. After retiring from the USAF, Bill attended Texas State University, earned a Master of Education at the age of 51 and began a second career as a teacher at Liberty Hill High School where he taught for 10 years.

In their retirement, Bill and Aldine enjoyed daily walks in the Travis Country community where they lived for more than 45 years, building meaningful friendships with neighbors and their pets alike. They also enjoyed tending to their garden and traveling.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Aldine, their son Gregory Bryan Lehman and his five sisters. He is survived by his four children: Cheryl Lehman, Susan Lehman, Nancy Hernandez (Victor), and Burt Lehman; six grandchildren: Christopher, Stephanie, Kimberly, Jennifer, Alex, and Christina; and three great-grandchildren: Cassidy, Sophia, and Jackson.

The Lehman family extends a heartfelt thank you to M.E. Ibarra, Bill and Aldine's dedicated caregiver of four years. M.E. provided compassionate care, bringing joy and laughter into their lives every day.

Bill's legacy of service, strength of character and love will forever be cherished by his family and all who had the honor of knowing him.

As an expression of sympathy, a donation in Bill's memory may be made to the Austin Chapter of the Blinded Veterans Assoc. (BVA.org) where he was the longest-serving member.
