Walt Manske Killed; Local Civic Leader
Walter E. (Walt) Manske, 45, Farmers Branch banker and civic
leader was fatally wounded Monday Morning while dove hunting on the
family farm southeast of McGregor in McLennan County.
Manske, a vice president of Central Bank and Trust Co., and former local
manager of Texas Power and Light Co., also had served as president of
the Greater Northwest Chamber of Commerce and president of the
Carrollton Rotary Club.
Constable Orville Phillips of McGregor said Manske's body was found in a
pasture about 2 p.m. Monday by a brother and two friends who were
heading into the field to join Manske, who left earlier to go hunting. A
.20 gauge shotgun was lying nearby.
We figure he must have accidentally discharged the gun somehow," said
Phillips. The body was found about 300 yards from the house.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Bible
Church at Inw0od and Northhaven in North Dallas, with Dr. Harold Hoehner
officiating. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Lee's Chapel in
McGregor with burial in McGregor Cemetery. The Rev. L. G. Hanneman,
pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor, will officiate.
The body is at Lee Funeral Home in McGregor.
A memorial has been established at Grace Bible Church.
The family has asked that no flowers be sent and that tokens of sympathy
be sent to the memorial or to a favorite charity in Mr. Manske's
memorial.
Steve Jordan, president of Central Bank and Trust Co. said today. "I've
lost a close personal friend as wll as a business associate. Walt gave
unselfishly of himself to his family, church and community and was
respected and admired by all. The directors, officers, employees
and customers of Central Bank held him in very high esteem. Our
community has lost an outstanding leader and good citizen. Through his
efforts many benefits and improvements are now employed by all. Our
hearts go out to his family, wife Phyllis and two daughters, Sharon and
Diane during this difficult time."
Manske, who received the 1965 Outstanding Citizen award, served as
president of the Greater Northwest Chamber of Commerce during 1970.
He joined the Texas Power and Light Co. staff in Waco as commercial
service, supervisor there. In 1959 he came to this area as TP&L local
manager for the Farmers Branch-Carrollton area. He remained with TP&L
until 1969 when he resigned to become vice president of Central Bank and
Trust.
He was married in 1955 to the former Phyllis Reichle of Waco, who
survives. Also survived are two daughters, Sharon and Diane, a brother,
Eugene C. Manse of McGregor, and his mother, Mrs. Walter Manske of
Gregor. |
