Constance Lynn Marks
November 13 1936 November 14 2019
“Amazing, amazing”… were our Mom’s final words after wishing her a Happy Birthday on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. Constance Lynn Marks, passed away peacefully at her home, from a short battle with cancer, 1 day after her 83rd birthday, on Thursday, November 14, 2019. Born on Friday the 13th of November, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Constance Lynn Kirchhoff was the eldest daughter of Edwin and Dorothy Kirchhoff. Edwin, a Lutheran Educator and Organist for the church, and Dorothy, a secretary and book publishing representative, fostered a lifelong love of learning and religious dedication which Constance spent her lifetime pursuing. Moving to and growing up in Chicago had a big Impact on Constance who attended Maine High School in Des Plaines, Illinois. Connie continued her education at Valparaiso, Indiana. While at Valpo, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Marks. Ken and Connie were married June 4th, 1960. While Ken was attending military training she began her teaching career. Ken’s job moved them to Lewisville, TX in 1972. During Connie’s career, she spent her time educating children with special needs. Connie always said, “Working with students made her feel she was contributing something to someone”. She touched many students’ lives in Elgin, Ill, Fort Leonardwood, MO, R.L. Turner and Blalack Middle School, Carrollton, TX, and Faith Lutheran School in Plano, TX from which she retired in 2003. Connie continued to be active after her formal teaching career ended with book clubs, bible class, UNT continuing education, Lewisville Senior Citizen Theatre Group, and her favorite teaching assignment, “Grandma School”. She attended as many as her grandchildren’s sporting events as she could. Connie’s love for sports and competition was legendary. Quite a card shark in her own right, any board game was going to get her best effort. Kansas Jayhawks and Dallas Mavericks basketball teams have lost a great fan and both will feel the impact in support – Good Luck to both! Preceded in death is her beloved husband Ken, parents Edwin and “Dot”, and brother-in-law, George Crawford. Connie is survived by her sister Maribeth Crawford, Lawrence, Kansas; sons, Brad Marks and wife, Debbie, grandchildren Ashley and Colton of Magnolia, Texas; Kevin Marks of Lewisville; and daughter Melissa Roark and husband, Greg, grandsons, Gavin and Gage of Lewisville. We can all honor Connie’s life by remembering the true path to Christ is not based on account of good deeds and well wishes but through strong belief and living your life in a way that glorifies and honors Christ and makes the world a better place. Our family would like to express our thanks to Aspen Hospice for the wonderful care and help. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 pm Tuesday, Nov. 19th, at Dalton and Son Funeral Home, Lewisville. Funeral service Wednesday, Nov. 20th, 11:00 am, Lamb of God Lutheran Church, Flower Mound, TX. In lieu of flowers, Mom asked donations to be made to any of the following charities..
