OBITUARY
Millard L. "Coach" Massey, 90, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 27, 2007, to be reunited with his beloved wife, Ardeth, who died in 2002 on their 60th wedding anniversary.

Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., officiated by Dr. Jeff Burnett, pastor of First Baptist Church of Hurst. Burial: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

A World War II, Pearl Harbor veteran, Coach served as a master chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945. Born in Wills Point Aug. 25, 1916, Millard graduated from East Texas State College in Commerce in 1940 where he was well remembered as "Twinkletoes Massey."

He then led a legendary Texas coaching career that took the family from Carrollton, Grapevine, Bridgeport, Bowie, New Boston, Henrietta and to Wichita Falls during the dynasty years of the Coyotes. Coach Massey was a quiet, unassuming leader; however, his accomplishments still hold records in many areas. At Wills Point High School, Millard held a track record that remains unbroken.

Coach's most memorable years proved to be the 1950s, when the Bowie Jackrabbits achieved four consecutive state championships in basketball. We are honored to have members of that team serve as pallbearers. Coach Massey also led Henrietta to its first-ever football championship teams.

Millard was preceded in death by brothers, Durwood Massey and Shorty Massey; and sister, Daphine Behrend.

Survivors: Daughters, Sharon Reitzell and husband, Robert of Southlake, Suzanne Hunt and husband, Mark of Plano, Stephanie Waldowski and husband, John of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Michelle Schauer and husband, Daryl of Keller and Taylor Massey of Fort Worth; great-granddaughters, Megan Starkey of UT-Austin and Jordan Schauer of Keller; sister, Dorthy Brockway of Stamps, Ark.; brother, Tillman Massey of Terrell; sister, JoAnn Massey of Corsicana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
