Clarence
Wayne McCarty
Died October 10th, 2017 in Burleson, Texas
Clarence Wayne McCarty, 91, of Burleson, Texas passed away peacefully
on October 10th, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving
daughters. Wayne McCarty grew up in Carrollton, Texas, the son of Jacob
Elbert McCarty and Dorothy Vandergriff O"Dell. After graduating from
Carrolton High School, Wayne served proudly in the U.S. Navy during
World War II in the Pacific Theatre serving on board the troop transport
vessel, the USS Niagra.
Following his service to his country, Wayne returned to the Dallas, Fort
Worth area where he attended college for a time, as well as performing
as a bassist, trumpet player and singer in local jazz and swing bands.
In 1950, Wayne married Lois Jo Keene, moving to Arlington where together
they raised their three daughters, Molly, Melanie and Mitzi. In the
1970"s, the couple moved to Rendon, building a small horse ranch on
Rendon New Hope Road.
Wayne and Lois were active members of the Retta Baptist Church for many
years. Wayne started working for the family car dealership, Vandergriff
Motors of Arlington, in the parts department and rose to the position of
General Manager of Vandergriff Buick. Following the death of his wife,
Wayne retired and moved to Burleson where he spent many active, happy
years, often in the loving company of his dear friend, Marilyn Sanders
and her family.
Wayne lived the last three years of his life at Heritage Place Assisted
Living Center, where he continued to make new friends, and received
excellent care from the thoughtful staff. To the surprise of no one,
Wayne"s retirement didn"t last long. He was soon hired by PGA Golfer
Mark Brooks (whom he met at the Colonial Golf Tournament in Fort Worth)
as the first employee of Brooks"s soon-to-open Southern Oaks Golf Club
in Burleson.
Wayne worked at Southern Oaks for many years, making countless friends
there who remember his friendly and jovial manner. Wayne McCarty was a
joyful, Christian man who was devoted to his family. He was, in turn,
greatly loved by them.
Wayne"s friendship was also treasured by the countless number of friends
and colleagues over many years who knew his easy smile and hearty sense
of humor. It"s no surprise, with his warm personality and genuine caring
about people, that he was an outstanding salesman. He loved to sing and
was a master story teller.
By his own admission, he wasn"t the best golfer on the planet, but he
loved the game and spent many happy hours on the Southern Oaks fairways
and greens in the company of his friend Fred Coyle and others. Wayne
also loved the letter M, as the names of his three daughters attest.
Wayne is survived by his three daughters, Molly Porter, Mitzi Ward and
Melanie Hart, and sons- in-law Scott Hart and Whit Porter, all of
Burleson.
Wayne was Babaw to his grandchildren, Chris Barnes, Katy Porter, Alicea
Zanotti, Brandon Ward and his wife, Cari and six great- grandchildren
(Mia, Jenna, Tony, Lennon, Bently [Bear] and Emmalyn). He is also is
survived by his beloved nephews Pat, Paul and Warren Roach and cousins
Mindy, Charlene, Amy, Richard and Peggy. A memorial service will be held
at the Retta Baptist church at 3 PM, Saturday October 14th. (13201
Rendon Road, Burleson, Texas.) In lieu of flowers, donations in the name
of Wayne McCarty may be made to the Alzheimer"s Association of Greater
Dallas, 3001 Knox St., Suite 200, Dallas, TX 75205. |
