OBITUARY

Services held for Robert M. McClary

Robert M. (Bob) McClary of Farmers Branch, died in a Dallas hospital Sunday, after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Webb Chapel Methodist church, with the Rev. Howard Williams officiating. Interment was in the Farmers Branch Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Robert M. McClary; a son, Robert E. McClary, both of Farmers Branch; three brothers, Frank McClary, Terrell, Alfred McClary, Palacios; Homer McClary, Palacios; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Weeden, Canton; and Mrs. Myrtle Gamble, Clinton, Okla.

Pallbearers were: Carl Hester, Delbert Elmore, D. D. Moore, Floyd May, B. A. Marcom, C. C. Caloway, A. L. Stanley, and T. R. McClendon.

OBITUARY

Square-Dance Caller Dies

Robert M. McClary, a Farmers Branch grocer, whose stentorian calling of old-fashioned square dances snowballed from local fame into national recognition, died Sunday in a Dallas hospital. He was sixty years old.
Credited with being the originator of the square dance on horseback, McClary was known throughout the state as a favorite at rodeos and community square dances which in the last few years have become popular with a nostalgic public.
His folksy  "Swing Yore Partners" was recorded for the Library of Congress.
McClary was born in Collin County, moving later to Rusk County. He came to Farmers Branch in 1931 to enter the grocery business there.
Survivors are his wife: a son, Robert E. McClary of Farmers Branch; three brothers, Frank McClary of Terrell, Kaufman County; Alfred McClary and Homer McClary, both of Palacios, Matagorda County; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie  Weeden of Canton; Van Zandt County, and Mrs. Myrtle Gamble of Clinton Okla.
Funeral services will be held at Webb Chapel Methodist Church, Farmers Branch, at  2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Howard Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Keenan Cemetery there. The body will be at Ed C. Smith and Bro. Mortuary, 1811 Ross, until noon Monday.
