Maxine Brown McClendon passed away peacefully with her family by
her side at the age of 80 in Carrollton, Texas on July 15, 2011. She was
born on December 20, 1930, in Mt. Sterling, Alabama to parents Eddie
Brown and Willie (McGrew) Brown.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Leo W. McClendon, Sr.;
sisters Mary Ridgeway and Oradee Blanks; brothers Grady Brown and Mervin
Brown. She leaves in mourning, sisters Earnestine Brown Jones and Elva
Brown Whitman.
Maxine is survived by her eight children, Clinton J. Brown; Marilyn
McClendon Davis; Ceril C. McClendon; Leo W. McClendon, Jr; Jerry L.
McClendon; Lynn C. McClendon Polk; Frieda N. McClendon Washington; and
Victor L. McClendon; as well as 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren
and a host of relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Maxine was a dedicated, loving wife, mother and friend to all who knew
her. She accepted Christ at an early aged and enjoyed her involvement in
women's ministry at St. Mary's United Methodist Church where she was a
member. Maxine was a gifted soloist and continued her ministry by
encouraging people and uplifting them until the end with songs and
praise.
Visitation was on Wednesday, July 20th from 6-8 p.m. at Rhoton Funeral
Home with funeral services on Thursday, July 21st at Covenant Church in
Carrollton. Interment followed in the
Furneaux Cemetery
