OBITUARY
Ex - Farmer Dies After heart Attack
FARMERS BRANCH, Texas. - John E. McLester, Sr., 86, of Farmers Branch, a
retired farmer, died Wednesday in a Dallas hospital after suffering a heart
attack Sunday.
Mr. McLester was a member of the Carrollton School Board (Farmers Branch has no
school system) for 20 years and was a deacon of First Baptist Church in Farmers
Branch for the same period.
Mr. McLester was born in Stanley County, North Carolina, and came to Texas in
1895.
He married Effie Nelson on July 3, 1905, and they settled near Letot, later
moving to White Rock. In 1923 he moved to a home on Valley View Lane where he
farmed until his retirement a few years ago.
Survivors are his wife; five sons, John E. McLester Jr., Archie H. McLester,
Cecil W. McLester, Paul McLester and Homer McLester, and a daughter, Mrs. W. B.
Drake, all of Dallas; two brothers, Archie E. McLester and Jesse McLester, both
of Oakboro, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Valley View Baptist Church
3108 Valley View, with the Rev. Thomas M. McClain officiating. Burial will be in
Crown Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be C. W. McLester, B. J. McLester, Bill Mac Drake,
Douglas D. Fitzpatrick and Quinten Lusby Jr.
