Dustan is listed [no photo] in the 1968 yearbook but not the 1969 yearbook which would of been his Senior Year. This photo was from the 1967 yearbook and was used in his obituary.

 

OBITUARY

Farmers Branch Serviceman Dies Found Wounds

Specialist 4th Class Dustan William Meeks, 19, of 2657 Brandywine, Farmers Branch, died on March 28, of wounds received to hostile action in Vietnam.

Meeks was with Co. B. 2nd Bn. 18th Inf, 1st Infantry Division.

A lifelong Farmers Branch resident, he was a member of the Farmers Branch Boxing Club and competed in the Golden Gloves for four years. He attended R. L. Turner High School before joining the Army in March 1968.

Survivors: parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dorris W. Meeks, Farmers Branch, brothers, Joe Meeks, Dallas, and Ronald Meeks, Farmers Branch; six sisters, Mrs. David Evans, Dallas, Mrs. Larry Keithy, Irving, Modie Meeks, Vicki  Meeks, Cecilia Meeks and Leigh Ann Meeks, all of Farmers Branch.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Rhoton, Weiland-Merritt Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Grove hill Memorial Park, Military pallbearers.

ARTICLE

HERO HONORED POSTHUMOUSLY

TERRELL (Sp) - The Bronze Star and the Air Medal have been presented posthumously to Spec. 4 Dustan William Meeks of Farmers Branch at ceremonies at the Terrell Nike Base.

Accepting the awards for their son, who was killed in Vietnam combat in March, were Sgt. and Mrs. Dorris W. Meeks of Farmers Branch.

The medals were presented by Maj. Doyle Smith of Denton, commander of the 532d Transportation Battalion.

Spec. Meeks, a graduate of R. L. Turner High School at Carrollton, participated in more than 25 aerial missions over hostile territory before his death. His father, stationed at Terrell with the 532d Battalion has been an Army man for 35 years.
