OBITUARY
MAJOR ROY
R. MITCHELL, USAR (Retired), on Sunday, May 11, 2003 in Carrollton. He was born
December 1, 1917 at Carthage, Texas, one of three sons of the late Daniel C.
Mitchell and the late Etta Bellamy Mitchell. Roy was a graduate of Tomball High
School , Tomball, Texas and attended Texas A&M and John Tarleton College at
Stephenville. He served as Postmaster at Tomball before entering World War II.
After a four year tour of duty he returned to Carrollton to begin a thirty-two
year career in the banking industry, starting at the old Carrollton State Bank,
later at Hillcrest State Bank and retiring as President of Northwest National
Bank in North Dallas. He completed twenty years of service in the US Army
Reserves and was a life member of the Carrollton Lions Club of which he was
president 1955-56. He, too, was a member in faithful attendance at First Baptist
Church in Carrollton for over sixty years, where he served as a deacon since
1947. He married the former Wanda L. Neely in 1940 and she preceded him in death
in 1998. Father of Raymond R. Mitchell and his wife, Carolyn; Roylene Mitchell
King and her husband, Lynn; grandfather of Kimberly King Krenek and her husband,
David, Kelly King Farfan and her husband, Roberto, Jeremy Mitchell and Joshua
Mitchell; great-grandfather of Kelly Krenek; brother of the late Vernon Mitchell
and the late Bryant Lee Mitchell. Friends are invited to attend Services
First Baptist Church 2400 North Josey Lane Carrollton Wednesday afternoon
2 o'clock May 14, 2003 Dr. Brent Taylor and Mr. R. L. (Lynn) King, Jr. will
preside. The concluding service will be in the Neely family plot at
Perry Cemetery in Carrollton,
where full military rites will be accorded. The honorary bearers of Major
Mitchell's casket will be Bill Blanton, Ben Brand, Kenneth Bush, Howard Evitts,
Gary Gentry, Milburn Gravley, John (Chip) James, LeRoy Mitchell, Ray Neely, Jr.,
Roy Neely, Ray Ogle, Robert Putnam, M.D., Jim Siebenthal , C. A. Thompson and
Rusty Washam. Friends may call at the church Tuesday evening 7 until 9 o'clock,
where the family will be present for a time of visitation. Flowers may be
delivered to the church after 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The Mitchell family
is being served by. W. Kent Adair Director.
