SERVICES SET FOR EDUCATOR MONA MORGAN

Services for Mona A. Morgan, an educator in the Dallas area for 46 years, will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Highway. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Furneaux Cemetery, north of Carrollton. Miss Morgan, 89, died Tuesday morning at Doctors Hospital in Garland after a brief illness. A descendant of the Peters Colony, an early pioneer family that settled in North Texas during the mid-19th century, Miss Morgan was born Feb. 6, 1899, in southern Denton County. She graduated from the old Dallas High School in 1916. She graduated with high honors and received a degree in education from the College of Industrial Arts in Denton in 1933. She did graduate work at North Texas State University and Southern Methodist University. Miss Morgan taught school at the Hebron Community School in Denton County from 1920 to 1938 and Wilmer-Hutchins High School from 1938 to 1940. The remainder of her teaching career was spent in the Carrollton Independent School District from 1940 until she retired in 1966. She was a member of the PTA and the Highland Park United Methodist Church. Miss Morgan also was a member of the Peters Colony Historical Society at Carrollton and a frequent contributor to the society's publication, Elm Fork Echoes. She is survived by two nieces, Margaret Jagmin of Dallas and Betty Dalchau of Austin; and two nephews, T. Morgan Farrington and George Farrington, both of Dallas.
