January 6, 1929 - October 21, 2018Roxie Slocum Morgan
of Garland, passed into the arms of Jesus October 21, preceded in death
by her loving husband of 54 years, Norris B. Morgan. She had a rich
professional life as Executive Secretary to the president of Braniff
Airlines and was a founder of Marlin Controls, Inc. She was active in
the National Association of Insurance Women and belonged to the Garland
Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Number 156.
Roxie had a life well lived, serving her church, viewing the launching
of a space craft, holidays in Mexico with family and enjoying the nature
on her farm in Wolfe City. Her visits to Israel and the Holy Land were a
highlight of her life. She loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of
Orchard Hills Baptist Church in Garland, where she cherished the
messages delivered by dear friends, Reverend Dickson Rial and Sunday
School teacher, Shirley Rial.
She was preceded in death by parents William Pierce Slocum Sr. and Allie
Iva Slocum; sisters: Henry Belle Robertson; Willie “Bill” Anderson;
Margaret Iva Day; and Doris Mae Polley. She is survived by sister Bonnie
McMath of Athens; Pierce “Pete” Slocum of Terrell; and brother-in-law
Hoyt Morgan of Garland.
Other survivors include nieces and nephews: Jean Willard; Johnnie Mae
Pollard; Carolyn Sue Gardner; Richard Anderson; Norma Fish; Linda
Cooper; Jack Day; Jimmy Day; Joyce Austin; Margaret Beer; Sharon Cessna;
Bill Polley; Frank Polley; Roxanne Clow; Michael Slocum; Perry Tongate;
Stewart Slocum; James Douglas Morgan and many Slocum and Morgan great
nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be at her home Thursday, October 25th from 5 p.m.
to 8 p.m. Services will be Friday, October 26 at 1 p.m. in the Morgan
Chapel at Orchard Hills Baptist Church, 3001 Saturn Road in Garland,
with the Reverend Dickson Rial officiating.
Interment will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Wolfe City, Texas
following the service.
Pallbearers will be: Dean Clow, Stewart Slocum, Bruce Moore, Bill Polley,
Billy Polley, Jimmie Huckeba and Doug Morgan, Honorary Pallbearer.
Roxie was grateful for the family, friends and caregivers who enriched
her life in her later years. Her kindness, gentleness and exquisite
sense of style will be missed by all who loved her.
