OBITUARY

Charles Moseley Killed During Naval Service

CHARLES MOSELEY
Word was received early last Saturday by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moseley, Sr., that their son, Seaman Second Class Charles Moseley, Jr., was killed in action somewhere in the Pacific.

The message read:

The Navy Department deeply regrets to inform you that your son, Charles Otto Moseley, Jr., Seaman Second Class USNR, was killed in action while in the service of his county. The department extends to you its sincerest sympathy in your great loss. On account of existing conditions the body if recovered cannot be returned at present. If further details are received you will be informed. To prevent possible aid to our enemies please do not divulge the name of his ship or station.
Vice Admiral Randall Jacobs, Chief of Naval Personnel.

Charles was born in Carrollton and spent his entire life here up to the time he entered the navy at 17. He never came home after leaving to join. He began school here and went through his Junior year. He was due to have been graduated this past spring.

First he went to Dan Diego for boot training and then took a course in electricity at  Iowa State College at Ames, Iowa. At that time he passed through the corner of Texas. In February of this year he went to sea.

Charles left for the Navy on June 19th last year. He was eighteen this June. He was a member of the boy scout troop here and during his lat year at school operated the picture show at DeWitt Perry. He also worked for The Chronicle under the management of the Edwin Harveys.
