OBITUARY

Sara Lynn Murawski (July 27, 1981 – August 28, 1996)
Sara Murawski was the second of four children and first daughter of the Murawski family. Her parents, Jerry and Mike, familiar faces at Mary Immaculate Parish and School, were role models for Sara; in all her years at MIS, Sara was an enthusiastic participant in school life. She was an excellent student and a Mustang athlete, playing both basketball and softball, and was a Highstepper officer for two years. To round out her activities, she was a member of both the school choir and “Heaven’s Harmony” parish choir at Christmas, was a regular altar server and was active in youth ministry and the Confirmation team.
Sara’s life was cut short, suddenly and unexpectedly, on August 28, 1996, due to complications of diabetes. She had been a freshman at R.L. Turner High School. Even though she was diabetic, Sara never let her illness slow her down. Her mother, Mike, recalls that “she always had a smile on her face and never complained. No one knew how she hurt inside.” In addition to all her school and parish activities, Sara was active during the summer at camps for kids with diabetes. During her last two years of camp, she was a counselor-in-training and was ready to make the next step to Counselor. She was much loved at camp, by Camp leaders as well as fellow campers.
The Sara Murawski Spirit of Community Award was established in 1997 and is presented to the graduating 8th grader who best represents Mary Immaculate School as an active participant in the life of school and community.
