Birthday Dinner
Last Sunday "Uncle" George F. Myers
celebrated his birthday with a big feed, composed of turkey
and all of the trimmings. We understand Mr. Myers is growing
younger each year now and the reason for these celebrations.
Despite the day, no gloom was noticable around the Myers
home. Those to enjoy the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. G. W.
Myers and children, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Myers and children.
They wished for Mr. Myers many more birthday.s

Myers Birthday Dinner
A nice birthday dinner was given in honor of Mr. George
F. Myers' on Sunday. The birthday was not until Wednesday,
the 11th, but it was easier to get the folks together Sunday
so the 8th was taken. Mr. Myers had his children and
grandchildren and grandchildren to-be (by marriage) all
there to enjoy the day with him and they had a fine time. We
believe Mr. Myers acknowledges 74 years,, and doesn't look
it, and had as enjoyable a time as the next one.
Those present were Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Squibb and Jay Ella
Myers, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Myers and two children, Mr. and
Mrs. Will Myers and their children including Darrell Myers,
and Miss Eunice Knight and Mrs. Art Daniels, and of course,
Mr. and Mrs. George F. Myers.

Myers Now Mayor
The reins of government were turned to
the new administration at a meeting held in the City
Officers last Tuesday night. Mayor F. M. Good and his board
held their final meeting and disposed of the business that
was yet to be cared for and then the new mayor and the other
recently elected officials were inducted into office. The
new members were: Mayor Geo. F. Myers, councilmen W. T.
Squibb and Walter Start, marshal Wm. Thomison, clerk C. A.
Miller. No action was taken at the meeting with regard
to selection of a man to care for the water and sewer system
and do the assessing of property and the collection of
taxes. This matter will be cared for at a later meeting no
doubt.

OBITUARY
G. F. Myers Pioneer Carrollton Resident Has Passed On
After a long, active and useful life spent in its entirety
of 81 years and five months in and near Carrollton, George F. Myers passed to
his reward Monday, death coming at St. Paul hospital following a paralytic
stroke suffered some days before at his home in Carrollton.
Mr. Myers was born Dec. 11, 1855, on what is known as the
Arch Fyke farm northeast of Carrollton, that then being the home of his parents,
Rev. and Mrs. J. M. Myers. He grew to manhood there and then came to Carrollton
in the early Eighties and began his business career which carried him thru fifty
years of activities in many lines. He served as railroad agent, postmaster,
general merchant, held public office, among them being several terms as mayor of
the town of Carrollton.
His father established the town of Carrollton and the Old Union
Baptist Church and was a mover in many of the civic enterprises of those early
days. The son, George was ever loyal to the town and community and gave of his
time and his substance toward its advancement. Fifty years as postmaster, as
merchant, was no mean service.
Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday afternoon at 3
o'clock. Rev. R. S. Kerr of the M. E. church, Rev. Preston Taylor of the First
Baptist Church, Rev. S. E. Wilkin former pastor of the Christian church of this
place but now of Lancaster, and J. W. Gravley participated in the obsequies.
Interment was made in Webb
Chapel cemetery east of Farmers Branch where the parents of his first wife,
his wife and two children are buried. Rhoton's were morticians.
Mr. Myers married Miss Ella Kennedy Aug 20, 1885, and to this union
three children were born and are still living. They are: Mrs. Amy Squibb, wife
of W. T. Squibb, G. W. Myers, and Jay A Myers, all of Carrollton. This wife died
and he later was joined in marriage with Miss Belle Evans, and to them three
children were born. Two have died, and Mrs. Ella Belle Stalnaker of Amarillo is
living. This wife passed away and Mr. Myers later married Miss Ellen Evans,
sister of the deceased wife, and she and the four children named survive.
At the time of his taking sick about two weeks ago Mr. Myers was
yet actively engaged in business. He had his general store and the picture show
which he looked after audaciously. He was active until the last days we saw him,
his 81 years seemingly resting easily on his shoulders.
Much could be written about his various activities and his desire
to be up and doing as is done is the active marts of trade. We will
mention this one to show this: When telephones were introduced, Mr. Myers
secured from L. F. Fouts of Trinity Mills a phone to connect his story and his
residence and this was the first phone to be installed in the town of
Carrollton. The phone may yet be seen in the store near his desk.
In his passing Carrollton loses one of its notable pioneers, one
who ever had its best interests at heart and he will will be missed. We pause to shed
a tear for his memory and will ever think of him as an aggressive mover towards
greater things as he was given to see the light. May his reward be great in the
hereafter.
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to thank our friends and neighbors for their kind deeds and sympathies
extended us in our recent sorrows during the illness and death of our husband
and father. For the floral offerings and many messages. It helps to make our grief
easier to bear. May God reward all is our wish.
Mrs. G. F. Myers and Family.
