OBITUARY A Sad Event
Carrollton was much shocked when, early Monday morning, word was passed
out that R. M. Neely was dead, death coming through his own act at 6:15 that
morning; a 38 caliber Smith & Wesson old style pistol being used and two bullets
entering the breast above the heart and going nearly thru the body, lodging
under the skin in the back.
Robert Milton Neely was the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Neely of this place and
was born February 2, 1894, and was at the time of his death 38 years, four
months, and 4 days old. He had resided here all of his lifetime and was a
man well liked by his associates and standing high with them. He has been
employed for a long time by the J. Fred Smith Gravel Co.
Funeral services were held in the Union Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 2
o'clock, Rev. E. L. Jones of Blooming Grove, a former pastor here, conducting
the services assisted by Rev. L. M. Joines, present pastor. Honorary pallbearers
were: Bob Knight, Cap Lowrey, Walter Hamilton, Claude Knight, and Jim Shuster.
Active pall bearers were Mr. Nixon, Willie Lyles, Loyd Cook, Claude Vinson,
Walter Evans, Lem Cromer, Interment was in
Forest Lawn cemetery. Mr.
Neely was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Irene Neely and son, Melvin, and daughter Wanda;
the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Neely and two sisters Mrs. Oscar Fyke
and Mrs. J. I. Sanford.
